2017 Mid Year Catch Up

Hello! I’ve been a bit absent round here lately, so I thought I’d fill you in on what I’ve been up to and what my plans are for the rest of the year. Between holidays and an unexpected flat move, running has taken a bit of a backseat lately.

Last weekend I took myself out for a long, watch-free, no pressure run in the rain. Just as I was starting to worry I’d never love running again, this did the trick! I’m feeling motivated to train hard again – but also with some more easy running built in. Whilst I 100% believe tempos & intervals are necessary to get faster, a little less pressure is no bad thing.

At the end of June I ran my first ever 1 mile race at The Meadows as part of the Sri Chinmoy series. It was hellish and fun in equal measure, if you can imagine that. It felt so odd to go out at suicide pace and be breathing hard almost immediately, but there’s something weirdly fun about an almost all-out effort. I crossed the finish in 6:23, looking less happy than I felt (evidence above!).

Race Plans

I’ve got a few races lined up for the rest of 2017, and I’m hoping I’ve got one or two more PB’s in me!

Haddington Half Marathon – 12th August
One of my running goals for 2017 is to run a sub 1:45 half. Given the hilly course and my sub-par training, I’m not sure how likely that is. Still, I’m gonna give it my best shot – safe in the knowledge that there’s a flatter back-up half if it doesn’t work out!

Stirling 10k – 10th September
My 10k PB of 50:21 is pretty poor relative to my fastest times at every other distance, so I’m hoping to shave a few minutes off here. I ran this race last year and it’s a flat, fast route so fingers crossed!

Scottish Half Marathon – 24th September
The aforementioned back-up plan! I haven’t ran this before but have heard great things. It’s a point-to-point course that’s actually slightly downhill overall. Not gonna lie, I’m preeeetty excited about that!

Stirling Aquathlon – 8th October
A 750m swim followed by a 5k run – all the best bits of a triathlon! 😉

No doubt there’ll be a few more parkruns in there too, but those are the main events! Anyone else got a few races lined up?
